Lamar Smith Says Obama Granting Back Door Amnesty
On January 6, 2012 the US Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services announced a new proposal that Representative Lamar Smith of Texas says 'granted back-door amnesty to potentially millions of illegal immigrants without a vote of Congress.'

Citing tight budgets, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced this summer that nearly 300,000 deportation cases would be reviewed to determine which could be closed through "prosecutorial discretion."
"We simply cannot adjudicate all these cases that are pending," said spokeswoman Gonzalez.
"It's a holiday for anybody in the country illegally," said Ira Mehlman, spokesman for the Washington-based Federation for American Immigration Reform, which opposes the initiative. "They're doing this with the intention of dismissing as many of them as they possibly can."
This is what the policy would do.
- Illegal alien spouses and children will be able to stay in the US while seeking legal status.
- The illegal may be required to go back home for an interview at the US consulate but this is largely considered a formality.
- To enable re-entry to the US, the government will issue hardship waivers.
Issuing policy in this way is called "prosecutorial discretion". Basically the Obama administration will choose which laws they will or will not enforce and do so however they want.
This policy upsets me as I am sure it upsets most Americans. First of all, it subsidizes bad illegal behavior -- namely illegally coming into the United States. Second, it bypasses congress by choosing to ignore laws and granting waivers. Third, when do you ever hear the Obama administration say they are going to enforce the laws? Or say that if they find illegal aliens convicted of a crime that they would be sent back?
